FACULTY and STAFF ACTIVITIES

Susanne Slavick and James Duesing participated as panelists in On the Edge of a New Aesthetic in a New Century?, a dialogue with artists and educators at the Carnegie Museum of Art on January 21. The event was co-sponsored by CMA and the Arts Education Collaborative.

Elaine A. King's article Tony Oursler's Uncanny Drama has been published in the January 2005 issue of Sculpture. The Issue of Ethics in Art: a Dialogue between Dr. Elaine A. King and Rosina Santana was published this January in the online El Quarto del Quenepon: a Review of Contemporary Culture. Rosina Santana is an MFA alumna. http://cuarto.quenepon.org/.

Bruce Erikson has an exhibition with Brian Porter at SUNY- Geneseo inGeneseo, NY, from January 29 through February 25, 2005. The opening reception slide lecture is on January 29 at 4pm. He is also in a national exhibition, 19th Nude International, at the Lexington Art League, Lexington, KY. The juror for the exhibition was Steven Assael. http://www.LexingtonArtLeague.org.

Ayanah Moor, has had her work published in Works from 6 Women of Anchor Graphics with an essay by Brentin Mock. Ayanah has a solo exhibit curated by Amy Mooney at Columbia College's A+D 11th Street Gallery from January 18 - March 2 with a closing reception that is free and open to the public on March 1 from 5-7pm with an artist's talk at 6:30pm. She has another solo exhibit, Representin' at Painted Bride Art Center in Philadelphia, February 4 through March 20 http://www.paintedbride.org.

Golan Levin, has been nominated for a Wired Rave Award (Today's Leading Innovators) among other noted innovators such as Frank Gehry and Björk. He is also exhibiting in the Banquete_05: 2nd International ACTS Festival at Conde Duque Centre, Madrid. ALUMNI ACTIVITIES

Raymond Saunders (BFA '60) has had a long-time artistic collaboration with David Mamet, author of Dr. Faustus, since Saunders created the cover art for the published version of Glengarry Glen Ross in 1984. At Mamet’s suggestion, Saunders created a new work of art inspired by the script of Dr. Faustus. The original is a highly-textured, 54" square, paint-and-collage artwork, which is "excerpted" for the poster, postcard, and program cover of San Francisco's Magic Theatre production of the play. Trillium Press produced a limited edition of prints based on the master image.

Nancy Hagin (BFA '62) is Associate Professor of Fine Art at Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City.

Joyce Kozloff (BFA '64) is exhibiting in Solitude and Focus: Recent Work by MacDowell Colony Fellows in the Visual Arts at Contemporary Art Museum in Ridgefield, Connecticut, January 23 - June 22, 2005 with an opening reception on Sunday, January 23, 2005, 4-6pm.

Christopher Anselmo Priore's (BFA '81) biography has been included in the 2005 edition of Marquis' Who's Who in America, p.3752. Last September, The New York Times did a piece on his solo show at the new Italian American Museum in New York. The exhibition was entitled, Albero della Vita/ The Art of Christopher Priore. Boris Bally’s (BFA '84) 1000 Rings, Triangle with Bar and Nickel Grabber Brooches are featured in 500 Brooches, published by Lark Books, to be released this Spring. The Society of North American Goldsmiths (SNAG), publisher of Metalsmith magazine, selected Brave, Boris’ neckpiece of 100 gun triggers, for its annual printed exhibition; and his Transit Chair Series appears in Metal by Chris Lefteri. http://www.LarkBooks.com; http://www.rotovision.com.

Justin Walsh (BFA '93) received his MFA in 1995 from the Art Institute of San Francisco. He is represented by the Jack Hanley Gallery in San Francisco and has work in the permanent collection at SFMOMA. Marc Fischer (BFA '93) and Temporary Services will present their piece, Prisoners' Inventions in the Transmediale International Media Arts Festival in Berlin, February 4 - 8, 2005. They will also be exhibiting Product Placements in Incorporated: a recent (incomplete) history of infiltrations, actions, and propositions utilizing contemporary art, at the Contemporary Arts Center in Cincinnati, Ohio, curated by Matt Distel and on view February 12 - May 8, 2005. Andrea Harley (BHA '96 Art/European Studies) is Publications Project Manager/Graphic Designer for Time Warner. She worked previously as a face painter in a doll company, a contracting administrator in an insurance brokerage, and a production artist for a small newspaper.

Laleh Mehran (MFA '97) is exhibiting with Tad Gloeckler in I Fly, You Fly at Broad Street Gallery in Athens, Georgia, January 27 through March 4.

Elizabeth Paddock (BHA '99 Art/Creative Writing) is a certified teacher K-6 and teaches at Highlands Elementary in Kissimmiee, Florida. She plans to have finished her Master's Degree in Education by the end of this summer at University of Pittsburgh.

Melinda Hungerman (BHA '00 Art/Psychology) completed a Masters of Arts Management Degree at Carnegie Mellon and worked as Director of Corporate Support at Pittsburgh Public Theater. She is currently in another fundraising position at the Foundation for the National Archives in Washington, D.C., working on a capital campaign to open new public exhibits and other educational spaces in the National Archives. She also raised $2700 by running in the National AIDS Marathon.

Stan Jones (BHA '00 Art/Philosophy) worked as graphic designer for three years and is currently involved in freelance graphic/web design, illustration, animation, and sound production.

Fred Zeleny (BHA '00 Art/Creative Writing) has been working at NDC Health as a developer of e-learning content, creating educational Flash games and interactions since summer of 2003.

Rhys Conlon (BHA '01) paints almost daily and works in the Communications/PR department at the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York City.

Jennifer Gibson (BHA '01) is a Foundation and Government Support Grant Researcher at WQED Multimedia in Pittsburgh. Previously, she taught world and art history at Thomas Alba Edison Secondary School in Hermosillo, Mexico.

Laura Lynn Gonzalez (BSA '02 Art/Biology) is the creative director and primary animator for an educational planetarium show at the Carnegie Science Center about tissue engineering. She has also worked as a freelance animator for the Pittsburgh Development Center at Magee Women's Hospital, concerning artificial fertilization.

Lauren Feldman (BHA 03 Art/Philosophy) is a graduate student in the computer science program at the University of Pennsylvania, looking towards the robotics field. Before enrolling, she traveled to Argentina and also started a cheerleading company.

Moshe Mahler (BFA '03) is an Animation Designer at Carnegie Mellon's Robotics Institute.

Anat Pollack (MFA '03) is in her second year as an Assistant Professor at University of North Carolina at Charlotte. She participated in a show at the Catherine J. Smith Gallery at Appalachian State University in Boone, NC, and also won a Faculty Research Development Grant to go to Italy this summer.

Cay Yoon (BFA '04) is exhibiting at the Crecloo Art Gallery in Jenkintown, PA, January 5 through February 19, 2005. http://www.creclooart.com.

GRADUATE ACTIVITIES

Lauren Adams, Takehito Etani and Blithe Riley will have work at the upcoming Warhol show, Seeing Double: Encounters with Warhol February 19 - May 1, 2005. As the final exhibition in The Warhol's 10th anniversary celebration, ten contemporary artists will show recent work that explores themes and ideas that were central to Andy Warhol's practice. The exhibition will demonstrate how Warhol's legacy continues to influence and shape the style and content of the artwork of a new generation of artists. Several undergraduate art majors (to be announced) will also exhibit, perform, or produce works for the gift shop or public spaces during this show.

UNDERGRADUATE ACTIVITIES

Junior, Samantha Laffey, has work in the 3rd Annual Glass Birthday Suit exhibition at the Pittsburgh Glass Center located at 5472 Penn Avenue in East Liberty. The show features student and instructor work. The show opened on January 21 and runs through March 25, 2005.
